Interesting...

I just read this quote and thought it was worthy of thought. It came from a recent post on the blog Solo Femininity, but there wasn't a lot of context. What do you think of it?

"People talk of the pathos and failure of plain women; but it is a more terrible thing that a beautiful woman may succeed in everything but womanhood." G K Chesterton

Definitely interesting, but I'm not sure that I have heard these "failures of plain women" and plain in whose eyes? I think it is a rather blanket statement. I need to think on it some more.

I think he is alluding to their inability to get a husband, popularity, etc; I am still working on this one as well.

I don't get the 'plain woman' thing either. I think it's probably true that many women do succeed at everything but womanhood. That of course begs the question: what is true womanhood? Hmmmmm.......Gen
